“No parent should receive last night’s news and experience the horror of losing a child,” Beard said in a statement.

Before the shooting, the police department had initially been called to the home for a noise complaint. An unnamed 18-year-old resident told police she was trying to shut down the party, but people kept coming; she refused police help, Beard said.

A witness told police that after police left the house, up to 30 more people showed up, but a locked door prevented them from entering the party, according to Beard.

“The group entered the backyard through the side door,” Beard wrote. “Shortly after, screams were heard coming from inside the house and several people were seen running out the front door.”

According to police and witnesses, between five and six gunshots were heard in front of the house.

Beard said the preliminary investigation reveals that one person was associated with the shooting.

“As I write this, there has not yet been enough information developed about the suspect in this case for me to release it,” Beard wrote. “As soon as I have something to post that benefits our investigation, I will be sure to do so and appeal to our community to help us locate the suspect.”
