‘9-1-1’ Star Oliver Stark on Homophobic Reaction to Buck’s Kiss

Oliver Stark, who plays Buck on ABC’s “9-1-1”, is “humbled and overwhelmed” by the positive reaction from fans at the end of the show’s 100th episode, in which Buck and Tommy Kinard (Lou Ferrigno Jr.) A kiss was shown in between. ,

“Humbled and overwhelmed by the positive response to Buck’s story,” Stark wrote on his Instagram Story on Saturday. “I’ve read so many of your messages and I couldn’t be more proud.”

Stark also responded to the backlash over the kiss, writing: “If you’re one of the small group of people commenting on my post about how it has ruined the show. I would like you to know that I really don’t care. It’s a show about love and inclusion. It features strange relationships from the beginning, including a beautiful black lesbian wedding played by two of the best actresses [Aisha Hind and Tracie Thoms] I have ever seen.”

Stark continued, “If any other character is finding a new facet in their sexuality and realizing their bisexuality then that’s going to be your deal breaker – I’m afraid you’ve missed the whole point of the show. You do not need to announce your departure.

“9-1-1,” which originally aired on Fox before moving to ABC, follows the lives of Los Angeles first responders, including firefighters, paramedics, police officers and dispatchers. The procedural drama was created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear.

Stark told after Thursday’s episode Diversity Minear called him during the third episode of the season to ask him what he thought about making his character bisexual.

“He had already been in contact with Lou, who plays Tommy – he wanted to know if he was involved before he brought it up to me. So without giving it too much thought he said, ‘I think this is the truest way to continue Buck’s story.’ And I said, ‘I agree 100%,'” Stark said. “I think it’s deserved and I think it’s earned — and I’m excited to get the chance to tell it.”

A day after the 100th episode aired, Stark’s co-star Angela Bassett revealed Diversity That she was surprised by Buck’s kiss.

“He’s been the ladies’ favorite guy from the beginning – the wild card – so this is something new for him and also surprising,” Bassett said.
