Patriots coach Bill Belichick hasn’t had much to be happy about this season, but after Thursday night’s win over the Steelers he looked as happy as he has in a long time.

“The players and coaches did a great job this week, obviously it was a short week, last week was a tough, frustrating game, but we had a good week of preparation. However, the guys played with a lot of effort, energy, tenacity and resiliency,” Belichick said. “Our guys really stepped up. We had a lot of guys make some big plays in the game that we needed. Happy for our team, happy for the coaches, it was a short week, didn’t sleep much this week, but they put a lot of hard work into it. It was very satisfying to see the results.”

The Patriots’ offense scored three touchdowns in the first half and led 21–3 at halftime.

“It’s always nice to see the offense in the end zone,” he said.

This may still prove to be the worst team Belichick has ever coached, but for one night they showed they haven’t given up on the season, and Belichick liked what he saw.
