Boy, mother stabbed to death in attack at Chicago home: officials

An 11-year-old Chicago boy died trying to protect his mother in a stabbing attack, authorities said.

On March 13, Crosetti Brand, 37, broke into the home of his ex-girlfriend, who had a protective order against him, police said Friday.

“This is something that should never have happened,” Chicago Police Department Superintendent Larry Snelling said in a statement. Friday press conference announcing the arrest. Brand had been released on parole the day before.

The boy’s 33-year-old mother was seriously injured in the incident, but was able to speak to hospital detectives in the days afterward. Another son, aged five, was also present at the time of the incident, but said CPD unharmed.
