Inactive military bomb found on beach near Santa Cruz New Year’s Eve

A dormant, non-functional military bomb washed up on a Monterey Bay beach on New Year’s Eve, after a period of dangerously high surf conditions.

TO Santa Cruz County Bomb Squad He was called to Pajaro Dunes, about 20 miles south of Santa Cruz, around 2:20 p.m. Sunday, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office said. Officials determined the bomb was “safe” artillery from the 1960s used for practice and removed it.

Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Ashley Keehn told SFGATE that the event is not completely abnormal because military equipment, including marine flares, appears every few years.
