Iowa beats LSU, UConn beats USC to reach Final Four

The women’s final four field has been determined.

Caitlin Clark’s sensational performance lifted Iowa ahead of LSU in a thrilling Elite Eight matchup, and UConn defeated USC in the final game to secure the final spot in the Final Four field.

Iowa and UConn will now face off in the national semifinals on Friday, while South Carolina and NC State will meet in the other semifinal in Cleveland.

    No. 3 UConn upset No. 1 USC to advance to the Final Four, where it will face Iowa. Paige Bueckers once again led the Huskies by posting 28 points and 10 rebounds.

  • Our match in Portland is a tie! USC’s McKenzie Forbes hit a 3 with 7:32 left to play to tie the game at 59-59. Forbes has 21 issues.

  • End of third: UConn 55, USC 51

    Kayla Padilla scored the first bucket of the night at the buzzer for USC. That reduced UConn’s lead – which briefly reached 12 points in the third – to just four points with 10 minutes remaining.

    Looks like we’re on to a good finish in Portland.

  • Looks like Aliyah Edwards is having trouble with her face mask. Took it off early in the third before wearing it again, and then broke it down briefly before hitting a pair of free throws.

    UConn led 47–40 midway through the third period.

  • UConn came out of halftime on an 8-0 run and took a 41-33 lead early in the third with a huge Nika Muhl 3-pointer.

    USC quickly went on a 6–0 run to tie the game at halftime. Paige Bueckers had 15 points and JuJu Watkins had 13 points at the break.

  • It’s almost half time in Portland, and Kaitlin Clark is still in Albany signing autographs and meeting fans.

  • JuJu Watkins scored his 899th point of the season, setting a new NCAA Division-I freshman record. She passed San Diego State’s Tina Hutchinson, who had made a mark in the 1983–84 campaign.

    USC led UConn 17–15 after the first quarter.

    Paige Bueckers had seven points for the Huskies and McKenzie had eight points for USC.

  • USC took a 15–6 lead in the first game, but has not scored since. Aaliyah Edwards added it back for UConn on a huge reverse layup at the end of the quarter.

  • The 3-point lines at the Moda Center have been fixed. This is very evident at one end of the floor, where there is a large gap between the line and the white on the court.

  • Now let’s head west to Portland’s Moda Center, where UConn and USC will compete for a Final Four spot.

  • Caitlin Clark and the Hawkeyes defeated LSU in a rematch of last year’s title game. They’re headed to the Final Four in Cleveland this weekend.
