A New Hampshire jury found Monday Logan Clegg guilty of murder and other charges for fatally shooting a retired couple last year while they were walking on a trail near their home.

The verdict in Merrimack Superior Court was issued around 12:45 p.m.

The jury found Clegg guilty of shooting Stephen Reid, 67, and his wife, Djeswende Reid, 66, multiple times after randomly encountering them on a quiet trail on April 18, 2022. No motive was ever revealed. murder.

Prosecutors alleged during the three-week trial that Clegg, a homeless man who lived in a tent in a wooded area near the Marsh Loop trail in Concord, shot the Reids on the trail shortly before 2:50 p.m., and that a woman later saw Clegg looking at the spot where their bodies had been dragged and covered under brush.

The next day, authorities said, Clegg burned his tent and was arrested in October 2022 in Vermont with a gun that allegedly matched shell casings found at the scene, as well as a one-way plane ticket to Germany and a passport. Fake Romanian with an alias and $7,000 in cash.

“The truth is that Logan Clegg killed Stephen and Wendy, he murdered them,” prosecutor Josh Speicher said during your final argument in Merrimack Superior Court last week.

“After he murdered them, he tried to cover his tracks,” Speicher said. “He burned down his house. He fled using false names. He deleted information from his computer. He hid the bodies. He hid his crimes and then fled. Because he knew he was guilty.”

Defense attorney Maya Dominguez insisted last week during closings that her client was falsely accused.

“We know Logan is not guilty because the timing doesn’t make sense,” Dominguez said in his closing argument. “And the evidence from the scene and from witnesses does not point to Logan.”
