1. A worrisome day that could be healthy for this MSU team and program

EAST LANSING – The sweat was real – as real as it has been for Michigan State the last 27 years.

And it ended in a sleepless night for Tom Izzo, whose team cheered and screamed, clapped and hugged after seeing Michigan State named to the NCAA Tournament bracket, his excitement undoubtedly filled with relief. Athletic director Alan Haller was in the room. So, too, was new university president Kevin Guskiewicz. However, no guests or journalists. This was not a guaranteed celebration. This could have been difficult.

“That was one of the most anxious days of my career,” said Izzo, who felt good until he saw that MSU could be a bubble team on Saturday night — as have so many surprising results in conference tournaments across the country. Seemed to make things difficult. After this he spent the next 20 hours worrying.
