A mystery Powerball player in Oregon who won a surprise $1.3 billion jackpot has still not come forward to claim his prize after a winless streak spanning more than three months and ending due to delays .

A single ticket matching all six numbers drawn to win the $1.326 billion jackpot was sold in a Portland neighborhood, Powerball said in a statement Sunday.

The name of the retailer is being withheld until the winner is revealed – Powerball has so far only released the winning zip code, 97218.

In Oregon, Powerball winners are required to publicly disclose their identities after claiming their winnings.

“I want to congratulate the winner on this life-changing moment, they have one year to claim the top prize,” Oregon Lottery Director Mike Wells said in a statement.

“Nobody in Oregon has won an award on this scale, and it’s very exciting for our staff and players.”

Until the latest drawing, no one had won Powerball’s top prize since New Year’s Day, amounting to 41 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner – tying the streak set twice previously in 2022 and 2021.

The drawing was also delayed by more than three hours due to the need for “additional time to complete the necessary pre-draw procedures” to participate in the lottery.

A statement from Powerball explaining the delay said, “The rules of the Powerball game require that every ticket sold nationwide must be checked and verified against two separate computer systems before the winning numbers are drawn. ”

“This is done to ensure that every ticket sold for the Powerball drawing is accounted for and has an equal chance of winning. Tonight, we have one jurisdiction that needs additional time to complete the pre-draw process.

The $1.326 billion prize is the eighth-largest in US lottery history.

If the winner wants to take the lump sum, or $1.33 billion paid out over 29 years, the current jackpot has a cash value of $621 million.

The winning numbers drawn were: 22, 27, 44, 52, 69 and the red Powerball 9.
