New Jersey shaken by 4 more earthquake aftershocks, including 1 during solar eclipse

Four more aftershocks of the earthquake, including one that occurred during the solar eclipseoccurred in New Jersey on Monday and focused on the 4.8 magnitude earthquake that shook the state and the region on Friday.

There have already been 43 Replicas in Somerset and Hunterdon counties. from the Earthquake hits New Jersey a few minutes before 10:30 a.m. on Friday. It was centered 4.3 miles north of Whitehouse Station in Hunterdon County.

Monday’s four aftershocks had a magnitude between 1.3 and 1.6. Three occurred early Monday morning.

The fourth, of magnitude 1.3, occurred at 3:42 pm when the The 2024 solar eclipse was coming to an end in New Jersey.

Additional Aftershocks are likely during the week.the experts say.

U.S. Geological Survey officials said the frequency of aftershocks decreases over time, but they can “continue for days, weeks, months, or even years in the case of a very large mainshock.”

Experts predict there is almost an 80% chance that an aftershock measuring 3.0 or larger will hit the region within a week. They also said the area has a 15% chance of reaching 4.0 or higher.

The strongest aftershock so far was magnitude 3.8 on Friday night.
