After being married for two and a half years, Jeezy has officially filed for divorce from his wife, Jeannie Mai, a former TV host. This news has been confirmed by Billboard. The rapper submitted the divorce petition on September 14th at Fulton County Superior Court in Georgia. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution was the first to report on this development. It’s important to mention that the couple had a prenuptial agreement in effect. In his filing, Jeezy is seeking joint custody of their 1-year-old daughter, Monaco.
The legal document, as seen by Billboard, states that the couple is currently separated and their marriage has irretrievably broken down with no chance of reconciliation. Billboard has reached out to representatives for both Jeezy and Mai for their comments on this matter.
Jeezy and Jeannie Mai first crossed paths in 2018 during Mai’s time on “The Real.” However, they kept their dating status under wraps until 2019 when they confirmed their relationship. The following year, they announced their engagement. Due to the challenges posed by COVID-19 restrictions, they had to change their wedding plans. Originally planned for France, their wedding took place at their Georgia home in 2021, where they had an intimate ceremony.
Mai shared their reasons for this change, saying, “We were really looking forward to having all of our friends and family there to celebrate. However, our wedding plans had to undergo significant adjustments due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Tragically, Jeezy’s mother passed away unexpectedly, which served as a poignant reminder of life’s fleeting nature. Ultimately, Jeezy and I realized that what truly mattered to us was becoming husband and wife. As a result, we made the decision to transform our initial wedding into an intimate gathering, a mini-mony, where we exchanged our vows surrounded by our immediate family and a select group of close friends.
At the beginning of 2022, Jeezy and Mai welcomed their first child, and Mai joyfully announced the news on Instagram, saying, “I asked God for a life of love and happiness. He sent me my family. Baby Jenkins is here.”
