Thousands of people are left without power after the great Maine storm

Thousands of people were left without power Sunday morning after ice and snow from a large storm downed trees and power lines overnight.

Damage occurs primarily in southern Maine counties. Central Maine Power had 188,106 homes without power, including nearly half of Cumberland County with 88,644 and more than a third of York with 47,073. Sagadahoc had 15,771 and Lincoln had 13,378 as of 8 a.m. Sunday.

Nearly half of Waldo County, 12,817 residents, also woke up without power. Knox County had 5,400 and Hancock had 4,572 outages reported.
