Donald J. Trump, facing a liquidity crisis that puts him at a serious disadvantage against President Biden, had dinner Thursday night with a small group of donors, including hedge fund billionaire Robert Mercer and his daughter Rebekah, according to two people with knowledge of the situation. event.

Trump’s dinner companions also included businessman Omeed Malik, cosmetics firm founder Trish McEvoy and real estate billionaire Richard Kurtz, one of the people said.

The Mercers, Ms. McEvoy and Mr. Kurtz did not respond to requests for comment. A spokesman for Malik declined to comment and a spokesperson for Trump did not respond to a request for comment.

The Mercers were a key source of support behind Trump’s victory in the 2016 presidential election. In addition to donating, they pressured him to make changes to his political team, including naming Kellyanne Conway as his campaign manager and Stephen K. Bannon as its CEO. The family was noticeably quiet during Trump’s 2020 re-election effort.

But both Robert and Rebekah Mercer have lent their names to an invitation to a big-ticket fundraiser on April 6, along with Malik. And her appearance with Trump at the dinner is further evidence of a rekindled relationship.

The dinner came at the end of a day in which Trump flew to New York City from Florida to attend the vigil for New York Police Department Officer Jonathan Diller, who was shot and killed during a traffic stop in Queens this week.

Trump’s visit came at the same time Biden was preparing for a fundraiser with two of his Democratic predecessors, Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, that raised a record $25 million at Radio City Music Hall. Trump’s team mocked the event as an elite event when greeted by Officer Diller’s family.
