(NewsNation) — Some Walmart shoppers who purchased loaded groceries or bagged fruit may be eligible for a cash payout from the settlement of a class action lawsuit with the retailer.

The class action lawsuit, first filed in October 2022, accuses Walmart shoppers across the U.S. and Puerto Rico of purchasing certain meat and seafood sold by weight and select items sold in bulk bags. Paid more for citrus than the lowest price advertised in the store.

Walmart denied any wrongdoing but agreed to pay $45 million to settle the lawsuit.

Customers who believe they have been affected can submit claims for cash payments. Here’s how to determine if you’re eligible:

Who is eligible for cash payment?

Cash back is available to anyone who purchases certain meat, seafood and citrus fruit products, including select oranges, grapefruit and tangerines, at Walmart in the US and Puerto Rico between October 19, 2018 and January 19, 2024.

How do I apply for settlement payment?

Consumers who believe they are eligible must submit a claim online or download a form, print it and mail it to the address provided on the form.

The claim form instructs consumers to submit contact information, provide details of the type and quantity of items purchased, select payment options, and provide the opportunity to upload receipts.

Consumers will have to submit claims by June 5. A final approval hearing is scheduled for June 12. Objections and other comments on the settlement can be made until May 22.

How much should I expect?

Payment will vary in amount depending on each claim. Even if you don’t have a purchase receipt, it’s still possible to get some money.

Consumers without proof of purchase can receive between $10 and $25, depending on how many qualifying product purchases they authenticate during the settlement class period.

Those who keep receipts or other documentation can receive 2% of the total cost – up to $500 for each product purchased.

What will happen next?

Approved claimants will receive their payments electronically via Venmo, Zelle, ACH or Virtual Pre-Paid Mastercard. Paper checks can also be requested for those unable to receive payment electronically.
